Fire operations

Cote Saint-Luc fire truckFor years, the Police Department assumed fire-fighting duties in the City of Côte Saint-Luc. In 1972, when the Montreal Urban Community was formed, police no longer performed fire-fighting duties. It is at this point in time that the City of Côte Saint-Luc formed their fire department.

Over the years, the fire department grew to a total of 24 firefighters, four lieutenants, four captains, prevention inspector, Chief of Operations, Chief of Prevention, Assistant Director and Director. The fire department had three fire engines, a ladder truck, a prevention van and two chiefs’ vehicles. Côte Saint-Luc was part of the West End Mutual Aid Group, along with Westmount, Outremont, Town of Mount Royal, Saint-Laurent and Hampstead.

When all of the fire departments on the Island of Montreal were amalgamated on January 1, 2002, the Montreal Fire Department took over firefighting responsibilities in Côte Saint-Luc. Côte Saint-Luc’s fire station became Station 78 of the Montreal Fire Department and is responsible for fire suppression, which includes fighting fires, protecting life and property and other emergency assistance. Fire prevention services for Côte Saint-Luc are now run from Station 65 in Lasalle, which include building inspections to ensure compliance with fire regulations, public education and preventing fires.
