Section Manager - Parks

The City of Côte Saint-Luc (“City”) is currently searching for a dynamic candidate to join its management team in the role of Section Manager for the Parks and Recreation Department.

THE POSITION  

As Section Manager – Parks for the Parks and Recreation Department, you will report to the Manager of Sports and Facilities. The section manager will namely maintain all parks and will be responsible for the upkeep of outdoor rinks and baseball / soccer fields. The section manager will also manage, coordinate and supervise all preparations for the various activities related to outdoor rinks and baseball / soccer fields. In addition the section manager will be responsible for the planning and coordination covering daily maintenance of the parks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

•    Coordinates plans and supervises the maintenance of sports facilities such as baseball/soccer fields, outdoor skating and hockey rinks, as well as general maintenance of all parks and park apparatus.
•    Ensures that facilities are maintained and equipped for all scheduled events that necessitate the preparation (such as marking of playing fields or the setting up and dismantling of equipment, bleachers or chairs)
•    Ensures the security and safety of park facilities with regular inspections. This would require proper certification.
•    Maintains cooperative relationships with other persons and departments in charge of scheduling of facilities used in conjunction with the sports programs and special events.
•    Responsible for the inventory of equipment and supplies used in the designated facilities above.
•    Prepares annual budget recommendation to the Manager of Sports and Facilities and the Parks and Recreation Director, regarding assigned areas of responsibility.
•    Manages a team of blue collar workers who are assigned to the tasks.
•    Performs other related duties assigned.
•    Position requires that s/he must be available to work evenings and weekends on a regular and continuous basis.

QUALIFICATIONS

•    The candidate should have a minimum of 5 years experience in a supervisory role and a University degree, with preference given to those who have a degree in Leisure Studies or related field.
•     Extensive knowledge of the principles, objectives, strategies and implications of parks and sports fields.
•    Knowledge of the City and its residents is an asset.
•    The candidate must have good IT skills, keen business sense, strong research skills, ability to solve complex problems, and the ability to be a strong team player.
•    Excellent verbal and written skills in both French and English are a must.
