2009 Winter Carnival
The City of Côte Saint-Luc held its annual Winter Carnival on Sunday February 8 2009 at Pierre Elliott Trudeau Park and at the Samuel Moskovitch Arena.
Within the park, there were many activities that took place, including maple taffy on the snow, horse-drawn carriage rides, and an inflatable obstacle course and bouncer for children. In addition to arts and crafts, balloons and face-painting stations that were taking place inside the arena studio room, the pancake breakfast was held once again inside Chalet 1. This breakfast, which was sponsored by McDonald's – Pierre Brunet franchisee, distributed more than 1100 pancakes.
After the success of last year’s outdoor hockey game, this year’s event was expanded and featured a 4 team tournament between 4 Peewee ‘A’ teams from 4 different communities. Côte Saint-Luc, Montreal-West/Hampstead, Westmount and Town of Mount Royal/Outremont were all represented. Each of these teams competed hard but in the end, Town of Mount Royal/Outremont defeated Westmount by a score of 3-2 in the championship game.
Inside the arena, hundreds of people turned out for the free public skating and the yearly Figure Skating Club Exhibition performers put on an amazing show. The Youth Hockey League also hosted its annual all star game with many thanks to Joe Raie and Ron Yarin for organizing this great game.
With the help of many associations, the Winter Carnival managed to raise $2,500 for the Montreal’s Le Manoir Ronald McDonald.
Many thanks to the following associations for their donations: CSL Minor Hockey, CSL Figure Skating Club, CSL Executive Hockey, Mike Martow Charity Hockey camp, CSL Youth Softball league, CSL B’nai Brith Softball league, CSL Women’s Softball league, CSL Tennis Club, the Royal Canadian Legion and Solly’s catering.
