Household waste

The City of Côte Saint-Luc adopted in February 2009 By-law no. 2302 "By-law to regulate the collection and disposal of waste materials." In accordance with its mission statement, the city desires to manage all waste materials in an environmentally respectful manner and provide cost effective services to residents to properly dispose of household waste. This page will help you sort and dispose of your waste in accordance with the services provided and the new waste management by-law. Blue bin (recycling)

  • By-law: 2302, art. 3.1
  • What goes inside: Recyclable materials such as clean paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, metal.
  • Disposal: Curbside collection Tuesdays starting at 7am. Tightly covered blue bins receptacles may be placed on the curb for collection after 10pm the day preceding the collection day.
  • Please note: All dirty or contaminated materials will not be collected. To avoid incuring extra costs and penalties for the city in order to dispose of properly.
  • Important: Rinse bottles, remove caps and lids.

Brown bin (organic waste)

  • By-law: 2302, art. 3.5
  • What goes inside: Organic waste materials, such as kitchen waste and garden waste.
  • Disposal: Weekly curbside collection starting at 8am. Days vary based on location. Tightly covered brown bins receptacles may be placed on the curb for collection after 10pm the day preceeding the collection day. Compostable bags may be placed on the curb up to 3 hours before the start of the collection.
  • Important: Only use certified compostable bags. Do not use plastic bags.
  • Tip: Use old newspapers to line your compostable bags inside your brown bin or kitchen collector.

Household hazardous waste

  • By-law: 2302, art. 3.9
  • Disposal: Drop off at (a) Écocentre de Côte-des-Neiges (6925 Côte-des-Neiges Rd.), or (b) Household Hazardous Waste days (check website for dates), or (c) at Public Works Yard (7001 Mackle Rd.) Mondays to Thursdays from 8 am to 11:15 am, or 12 pm to 2:45 pm; or Fridays from 8 am to 11:15 am.
  • Important: Do not put these items in the garbage (By-law 2302 art.3.9).
  • Please note: Disposing household hazardous waste in drains, sewers and in regular garbage can be damaging to the environment.
  • Tip: Use an old blue box to store items in your garage.

Electronic waste

  • By-law: 2302, art. 3.9 and 3.14
  • Disposal: Drop off at depot at (a) Public Works depot (7001 Mackle Rd.) Monday to Thursday 8am to 3pm and Friday 8am to 11:30am , (b) Écocentre de Côte-des-Neiges (6925 Côte-des-Neiges Rd.), or (c) Household Hazardous Waste days (check website for dates)
  • Important Do not put these items in the garbage, (By-law 2302 art.3.9 and 3.14)
  • Please Note: Electronic equipment in Canada can contain hazardous substances such as mercury, lead, cadmium, chromium and PBDEs. You must bring them to the depot for safe disposal.
  • Tip: Donate computers and other usable electronics to charities. Cell phones and batteries can be dropped off at all municipal buildings.
 

Construction, renovation and demolition (CRD) waste

  • Disposal: Drop off at (a) Public Works depot (7001 Mackle Rd.) Mondays to Thursdays from 8 am to 11:15 am, or 12 pm to 2:45 pm; or Fridays from 8 am to 11:15 am, or (b) Écocentre de Côte-des-Neiges (6925 Côte-des-Neiges Rd.). Free for residents who drop off limited amounts in a private vehicle. But a fee will apply for larger loads or drop-offs by contractors. Proof of Côte Saint-Luc residency required.
  • Important: Do not leave CRD waste for garbage pick up (By-law 2302 art.3.14 & 3.15).
  • Please Note: The City of Côte Saint-Luc can assist you in a pick-up for a fee. Call 514 485-6868 for as estimate of costs.
 

Donable items

  • Disposal: Deposit used clothing in the collection bin at the shopping centers and arena in Côte Saint-Luc or call non-profit organization for pick-up.

Bulky waste

  • Disposal: Drop off at (a) Public Works depot (7001 Mackle Rd.) Mondays to Thursdays from 8 am to 11:15 am, or 12 pm to 2:45 pm; or Fridays from 8 am to 11:15 am, or (b) Écocentre de Côte-des-Neiges (6925 Côte-des-Neiges Rd.). Free for residents who drop off limited amounts in a private vehicle. But a fee will apply for larger loads or drop-offs by contractors. Proof of Côte Saint-Luc residency required.
  • Tip: Recyc-Frigo will pick up from your home up to three refigerators or freezers that are more than 10 years old and in working condition, ranging from 10 to 25 cubic feet. They will pay you $30 for each one. Call 1-888-525-0930 or visit www.recyc-frigo.com.
  • Important: Do not leave bulky waste for garbage pick up (By-law 2302 art.3.14 and 3.15)

Pharmaceuticals

  • Disposal: Bring expired medications to your pharmacist for disposal.
  • Important: Do not throw prescription or non-prescription drugs in garbage.
 

Refuse (garbage)

  • By-law: 2302, art. 3.10
  • What goes inside: All items not listed in the other sections.
  • Disposal: Weekly curbside collection starting at 8am. Days vary based on location. Tightly covered garage receptacles may be placed on the curb for collection after 10pm the day proceeding the collection day. Ordinary garbage bags may be placed on the curb up to 3 hours before the start of the collection.
  • Important: Limite is 3 bags (25 kg)
  • Tip: You may use a large plastic bag however we suggest you use a tightly sealed bin to keep animals out of your garbage.

How to place your blue bins, brown bins and garbage bins at the curb

Your blue bin, your brown bin and garbage receptacles must always be placed on the curb as not to interfer with pedestrians and snow removal operations.
