Blood donor clinic
Hockey Hall of Fame broadcaster Dick Irvin Jr. will be attending the Côte Saint-Luc blood donor clinic on Tuesday, May 5 between 5:30pm and 7pm at the gymnasium at 7500 Mackle Rd.
The annual blood donor clinic will be open from 1:15pm to 8pm. The event is chaired by Councillor Ruth Kovac, a long-time blood donor who has also organized several clinics in the community. The Suburban newspaper is a sponsor of the event.
“We are thrilled that Dick Irvin will be there to meet the donors,” Councillor Kovac said. “Every donation can help up to four people and I’m urging residents of Côte Saint-Luc and surrounding cities to roll up their sleeves and give the gift of life.”
One donation represents 450 ml of blood and you can give blood every 56 days. Donors must be age 18 or older. It is impossible to contract a disease when giving blood because all the material is sterilized and used only once before being discarded.
There are four most common blood types are 0 blood (46 percent), A blood (42 percent), B blood (9 percent) and AB blood (3 percent). To learn more about eligibility criteria for donating blood, call 1-800-343-4264 or visit www.hema-quebec.qc.ca.
