Third annual softball all-star game to raise funds for Israel Cancer Research Fund

Côte Saint-Luc, July 30, 2010 – The third annual Girls Summer Softball League All-Star Game scheduled for Sunday, August 8 from at Pierre Elliott Trudeau Park in the City of Côte Saint-Luc will raise funds for the Israel Cancer Research Fund.

Last year’s game helped raise more than $20,000 for research into pediatric oncology. The goal is to raise $30,000 at this year’s all star game, which is also being played in memory of Leon Blumer, a resident of Côte Saint-Luc and umpire-in-chief for many of the summer baseball and softball leagues that operate in this community and elsewhere. The City of Côte Saint-Luc has donated use of its baseball field for the event.

The Girls Summer Softball League All-Star Game, featuring the league’s best players, will take place from 7pm to 9pm. Prior to the game, the mothers of league players play each other in a friendly game from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. There will be raffle prizes, including consultations with nutritionists, naturopaths, personal trainers, yoga instructors and gift certificates to restaurants and stores.

Donations will be accepted on site on the day of the event. People can also donate in advance by calling the ICRF at 514-481-2723. Corporate sponsors include Restaurant Marathon Souvlaki, Schreter, and Solly’s Bakery.

Sixteen teams and 300 women ages 18 to 40 from all over the island of Montreal play in the Girls Summer Softball League. For more information about the event, contact the league organizer Sara Rosenblatt at sararosenblatt@hotmail.com or visit the event Facebook page by searching for the words “3rd annual icrf event”.

The Israel Cancer Research Fund/ICRF is a voluntary charitable organization that receives its total income from private donations. ICRF was founded in 1975 by a group of American and Canadian researchers, oncologists, and lay people determined to harness Israel's educational and scientific resources in the fight against cancer.
