Côte Saint-Luc blood donor clinic on Tuesday, May 25

Côte Saint-Luc, May 17, 2010 – The annual Côte Saint-Luc blood donor clinic takes place on Tuesday, May 25 from 1:15pm to 8pm at the gymnasium at 7500 Mackle Rd.

“You can save a life and be a hero in many ways,” said Councillor Ruth Kovac, a long-time blood donor who is the chairperson of the blood donor clinic. “You can join our EMS first responders. You can become a firefighter. You can volunteer your time at a hospital. But the easiest way I know to be a hero—and to save a life—is to donate blood.”

A new video from the City of Côte Saint-Luc entitled “Be a hero / Sois un héros” encourages residents to donate blood. The video is available on the front page of CoteSaintLuc.org.

One donation represents 450 ml of blood and you can give blood every 56 days. Donors must be age 18 or older. It is impossible to contract a disease when giving blood because all the material is sterilized and used only once before being discarded.

There are four most common blood types are 0 blood (46 percent), A blood (42 percent), B blood (9 percent) and AB blood (3 percent). To learn more about eligibility criteria for donating blood, call 1-800-343-4264 or visit www.hema-quebec.qc.ca.
