Experts share their knowledge of oriental rugs in Côte Saint-Luc

Côte Saint-Luc, March 8, 2010 - Montreal appraisers and authorities on oriental carpets, Harold Bedoukian and Janice Summers, will speak about the unique history, design and techniques of oriental rug weaving at the Côte Saint-Luc Public Library on Thursday March 11 at 6:30pm.

Individuals attending the lecture are welcome to bring an oriental rug from their home for a free evaluation. Tickets for the lecture Oriental Rugs: the Art and the Market are $3.

Côte Saint-Luc Library exhibits abstract paintings on unexpected surfaces

Côte Saint-Luc, March 1, 2010 - Artist Justin Burnham will meet the public on March 4 at 6pm on the first evening of an exhibition of his abstract paintings on display at the Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library from March 4 to April 11.

Deluge is an exhibition of paintings on canvas and found glass, which evoke the vibrancy and fluidity of water in motion. Are we looking down on the swirling confusion of the earth from above, or seeing the hidden realms below the surface? In either case, Burnham's paintings call to mind water in its many forms and seasons.

Nathalie Cooke dishes about great Canadian food

Côte Saint-Luc, February 5, 2010 - Professor Nathalie Cooke will give a lecture on Thursday, February 11 at 6:30pm at the Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library on the rich history and culture of Canadian food.

In her lecture, Great Canadian Food and Food Stories, Cooke will share her zest for iconically Canadian cuisine and explain its origins taking her audience on a gastronomic, cultural and historical journey throughout the country.

2010 Côte Saint-Luc Winter Carnival

Côte Saint-Luc, February 5, 2010 - The 2010 Côte Saint-Luc Winter Carnival will include horse-drawn carriage rides, taffy on the snow, a pancake breakfast, outdoor hockey tournament and much more at Pierre Elliott Trudeau Park and the Samuel Moskovitch Arena from Friday, February 12 to Sunday February 14.

Dance to the oldies but goodies at this year’s winter carnival dance

Côte Saint-Luc, January 29, 2010 – Tickets are now on sale for the 2010 Côte Saint-Luc Winter Carnival Dance, which takes places on Saturday, February 20 at 7:30pm at the Gymnasium located at 7500 Mackle Rd.

“The theme of the dance is ‘Oldies but Goodies,’ which means people are far more likely to hear Chuck Berry or The Beatles than Justin Timberlake or Miley Cyrus,” said Councillor Mitchell Browntsein, who is a co-chairperson of the winter carnival. “If you are old enough to have watched the Montreal Olympic Games, this dance is for you.”

Exhibit at Côte Saint-Luc library explores themes of recollection, narratives and dreams

Côte Saint-Luc, January 28, 2010 – Artworks by Amy A. Thompson and Amber Albrecht are on display at the Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library from January 21 to February 28.

This exhibition, Invented Memories: Works by Amber Albrecht and Amy A. Thompson, explores themes of recollection, narratives and dreams. Amber Albrecht has created prints and drawings of absurdist situations, which stem from her recollection of the creatures, landscapes and impossible happenings of the storybooks from her childhood.

The world at your fingertips: computer courses for absolute beginners

Côte Saint-Luc, January 28, 2010 – Two introductory computer courses at the Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library have furthered the library’s reputation as a centre of learning.

“These courses are tailored to those who have never touched a computer,” said Mona Turner, Manager of Programs and Marketing. “We want to help people overcome any anxiety they may have about using computers and learn the ABCs in a pleasant, relaxed environment.”

Côte Saint-Luc launches CSL-TV as a new way to communicate with residents

Côte Saint-Luc, December 3, 2009 – The City of Côte Saint-Luc has launched an Internet video channel where it will post videos from municipal events.

The new CSL-TV website showcases videos produced by the city. Since 2007, Côte Saint-Luc has posted videos on its website, such as V-E Day ceremonies, Winter Carnival and more. CSL-TV is a way to organize these videos in one central place. Residents can see the video channel by clicking the CSL-TV button at CoteSaintLuc.org.

Côte Saint-Luc residents can now register online for recreation programs

Côte Saint-Luc, November 27, 2009 – Côte Saint-Luc residents will now have the opportunity to register for programs and reserve the city’s facilities online at CoteSaintLuc.org.

Beginning November 30 at 6:30pm, Côte Saint-Luc residents will be able to sign into their account and register for Parks and Recreation Department programs online for the winter session. Starting December 1, residents will also be able to check the availability of various recreational facilities, which will enable them to complete an online facility rental request.

Toy Swap at the Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library

Côte Saint-Luc, November 27, 2009 – Parents and kids will be able to trade used toys for other ones at the Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library at the first Toy Swap on Sunday, December 6.

Individuals are invited to bring in gently-used and well-cleaned children's and toddler's items to be swapped. There are a few exceptions to be noted: no clothes, car seats, cribs or walkers.

Fans can watch the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay at the Côte Saint-Luc Shopping Centre on December 10

Côte Saint-Luc, November 18, 2009 – On Thursday, December 10, the City of Côte Saint-Luc will welcome the Olympic flame is carried past viewing stands in front of the Côte Saint-Luc Shopping Centre as part of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay.

“Côte Saint-Luc is very proud that the Olympic flame will pass through our city and we are inviting residents and non-residents to come out and view the Olympic flame on its journey to Vancouver,” Mayor Anthony Housefather said.

Côte Saint-Luc announces portfolios of council members

Côte Saint-Luc, November 10, 2009 – The City of Côte Saint-Luc today announced the portfolios for its council members.

“At the start of our first mandate in 2006, I entrusted each council member with one or more portfolio,” Mayor Anthony Housefather said. “As we begin our 2010 to 2013 term of office, I am happy to announce the new distribution of portfolios.”

The portfolio model is based on the cabinet system where elected members represent not just their individual districts, but the city in general through specific portfolios.
