Contests

The City of Côte Saint-Luc encourages home owners and institutions to help beautify their properties in the annual Maisons Fleuries garden beautification contest. It also encourages school children to think about municipal improve issues in the annual Mayor for a Day essay-writing content. Finally, the annual Homemade Wine Contest.


 


2010 Maisons Fleuries Contest

The registration period for the Maisons Fleuries contest has now ended. The presentation of awards will take place on November 1, 2010 at 7pm at Côte Saint-Luc City Hall.

2009 contest winners

The winners and runners up in the 2009 Maisons Fleuries home garden contest were announced on Monday evening, October 26 at Côte Saint-Luc City Hall.

The grand prize winner in the category of single-family homes or semi-detached homes was Tony Iaizzo of King Edward Ave. The grand prize winner in the duplex category was Remo D’Alesio of Baily Rd. The grand prize winner in the townhouse category was Elana and Matthew Poplaw of Wallenberg.

The following is the list of grand prize winners, and district winners and runners up. The elite category is reserved to honour people who have been district winners at least twice in the past three years.

The Maisons Fleuries contest was chaired by Harold Greenspon, and councillors Allan J. Levine and Steven Erdelyi. The awards were presented by the city councillors and Mayor Anthony Housefather.

 


 

Mayor for a Day Contest

Cote Saint-Luc Mayor for a Day essay writing contestAre you a Côte Saint-Luc resident or attend a school in Côte Saint-Luc and are in grades 5 or 6 or grades 10 or 11? This is your chance for your voice to be heard.

Write an essay of between one and two pages about what you would do if you were Mayor for a day. Tell us how you would improve Côte Saint-Luc.

One winner will be selected from the elementary school entries and from the high school entries. Winners will read their essays in front of the Mayor and City Councillors during a City Council meeting at City Hall.

Contest rules and guidelines

Contest open only to Côte Saint-Luc residents or students attending a school in Côte Saint-Luc. Please limit the length of your essay to no more than two pages (or 400 words).

Include your name, age, grade, address, and phone number on the top of your essay.

Deadline

Essays are due on or before March 13, 2009.

2008 winners

 

Mayor For A Day winners 2008

Ileana Solivo (left) and Lennyx Craig (middle) of Merton School and Jeremy Elbaz (right) of École Maimonide were selected as the 2008 Mayor for a Day winners in Côte Saint-Luc, following an essay-writing contest.

Lennyx discussed pollution problems, Ileana wrote about issues regarding snow removal and road work, and Jeremy touched on library renovations and traffic congestion. Côte Saint-Luc residents or students attending a school in Côte Saint-Luc in grade five, six, 10 and 11 were asked to submit an essay explaining what they would do if they were the mayor of Côte Saint-Luc for a day.

The three winners visited city hall and toured the city on June 30. They read their winning essays in front of the Mayor and city councillors during a council meeting at city hall on September 8.

Kayla Eisenberg and Alon Sandberg were the co-winners of the 2007 Côte Saint-Luc Mayor for a Day Contest.

 



2010 Homemade Wine Contest

2009 contest winners

The wine-tasting event concluding the Homemade Wine Contest took place on October 7, 2009, at 7pm in the Harold Greenspon Auditorium of the Bernard Lang Civic Centre. The well-known wine connaisseur Bill Zacharkiw of The Gazette was the official taster. Special thanks to Mosti Mondiale for sponsoring the event.
