Swimmers from Côte Saint-Luc Aquatics shine at Quebec AAA Championship

Seventeen swimmers from Côte Saint-Luc Aquatics (CSLA) were among the best 400 swimmers from across Quebec ages 13 to 16 who competed at the provincial AAA Championships/Canada Games trials at the Olympic pool in Montreal on the weekend of March 31, 2017.

Of the the 46 teams competing, CSLA finished 5th overall, winning 7 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze medals, achieving 11 national standards, which will allow the swimmers to compete on at the national level, and establishing 16 new team records. 

This competition maked the first time the Quebec Swimming Federation used a single meet to determine its Canada Games teams. The top 10 performances from elegible athletes (girls born in 2002 and after and boys born in 2001 and after) in each event were awarded a place in the Canada Games final, which was swum in the evening, before the regular provincial final.

The winner of this Canada Games final was awarded one of the 12 places on Team Quebec. Côte Saint-Luc Aquatics (CSLA) had two swimmers who accomplished this feat: Cailin Mcmurray in the 800 free and Amaya Sastron-Navarrete in the 200 IM.  

Up next for the team is the Canadian World Championships in Victoria, BC, from April 6 to 9, 2017 and the the Canadian Eastern Championships in Toronto, Ont., from April 20 to 23, 2017.
