The governments of Canada and Quebec announced at a news conference at city hall on February 19, 2010, that they were giving the City of Côte Saint-Luc grants totalling $11.57 million to pay for two-thirds of a new building to house an aquatic centre and intergenerational centre.

Canadian Senator Judith Seidman, Quebec Minister of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy, Laurent Lessard, the Member for D'Arcy McGee and Chair of the Government Caucus, Lawrence Bergman, and Mayor Anthony Housefather addressed the media.

This grant of $11.57 million will allow Côte Saint-Luc to build a world-class building, which will provide Côte Saint-Luc with an outstanding facility for swimming all year round. It will provide our clubs and associations, such as the seniors clubs, with modern facilities and sufficient space to accommodate hundreds of members. Côte Saint-Luc will also launch new programs to bring together young people and seniors to address social concerns and to create opportunities for lifelong civic engagement. This is the intergenerational aspect of the project.

The city must now invite companies to bid on the project, create architectural plans, and begin the project. The city will break ground this summer and the building should be complete in 2011.
