Free walking tours will tell story of the trees of Côte Saint-Luc

Côte Saint-Luc, August 13, 2009 – Free 90-minute walking tours on three Wednesday evenings in August and September will give City of Côte Saint-Luc residents the chance to learn about the trees in their neighbourhood.

The three-part series Leafy Treasures Walking Tours will be led by Bronwyn Chester, the author of a guidebook on the trees of McGill University. Tour 1 on August 26 visits Ashkelon Gardens and Nathan Shuster Park. Tour 2 on September 2 covers the area around Baily Rd. and Merton Rd. Tour 3 on September 9 covers the area from Westminster Ave. to Blossom Ave. All tours are from 5:30pm to 7pm.

“Few of us know the names of the trees we see every day and this walking tour is designed to make people more aware of the value and variety of their local trees,” said Councillor Dida Berku, the council member responsible for environment issues. “We cannot take for granted the benefits of our urban forest. The trees we nurture protect the air we breathe and provide the canopy for our leafy neighbourhoods".
