Singer-songwriters to speak with teens and perform at the library in Côte Saint-Luc

Words and MusicCôte Saint-Luc, February 4, 2011 – The Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library will get noisy in February as three promising Montreal-area singer-songwriters perform their music and talk to teens about how they write their songs and where they find creative inspiration.

Words and Music is a three-part series for teens and will take place Thursdays at 7:30pm. The singer-songwriters will be Brittany Kwasnik on February 10, Daniel Schachter on February 17, and Matt Stern on February 24.

“This year we are really focusing on teens,” said Assistant Library Director Janine West. “We are doing this program, which is directed specifically at them, we have implemented a teen advisory council, we are planning a movie night, and this is just the beginning. We want them to feel that they are an integral part of the library.”

On each Thursday evening, one of the musicians will be in the library to talk about their art and play music. They will discuss their method for writing songs and discuss their creative inspirations. Free passes for teens are available at the main circulation desk of the library on a first-come, first-served basis. There is limit of five free passes per person.

Brittany Kwasnik is a 16-year old singer songwriter who found fame when she posted a YouTube video of herself singing and playing her guitar. Her music is part folk, part indie, part pop. Kwasnik recently signed a record deal with Justin Time Records and her first album I Don’t Know Me will be released later this year.

Daniel Schachter is known for his signature folk rock music. Schachter has performed at The Yellow Door, the 2010 Osheaga outdoor music festival, and elsewhere. Schachter is also a filmmaker and a devoted fan of film director Federico Fellini.

Matt Stern gravitated to music at an early age and learned guitar, piano and trombone in his teenage years. Stern’s newest extended play (EP) album was launched in September 2010. I’m not the Only One (2010) is an acoustic-guitar driven pop-folk-soul-rhythm-infused collection of songs.
