The world music quartet Surkalén will perform in Côte Saint-Luc on Thursday, March 19

The world music ensemble Surkalén will perform a concert of original ethno-fusion music at Harold Greenspon Auditorium at 5801 Cavendish Blvd. on Thursday, March 19 at 7 pm.

Surkalén (www.surkalen.ca) is a group of four musicians of Latin American and European heritage who play in a musical style that they call ethno-fusion. This poetic style mixes South American sounds and rhythms with elements of African, Asian, European, and Middle Eastern music.

In 2012, Surkalén released their album Essence de lumière. They were nominated for World Group of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2012, and in 2013 the group won the People’s Choice Award from the Conseil des arts de Montréal.

Critics have described their music as gentle, spellbinding, wide-ranging, and always defiant towards boundaries. The four musicians use many instruments, including guitar, bass, flutes, violin, percussion, as well as vocals to create their unique sound.

Tickets for the concert are $5 and are available at the front desk of the Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library. For more information, please contact Robin Grantner at 514-485-6900, ext. 4205.
