Public Libraries Week takes centre stage at the CSL Library

The Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library presents a series of special events, including a used book sale, free cultural events, and drop-in information sessions to celebrate this year’s edition of Quebec Public Libraries Week.

“More and more, public libraries are becoming community centres offering fun and learning for people of all ages,” said Library Director Janine West. “We’ve prepared a week full of activities to showcase all we have to offer here in Côte Saint-Luc. If you haven’t been to see us yet, this is the perfect time to come and explore!”

Public Libraries Week kicks off with the library’s semi-annual Used Book Sale, which runs from 11 am to 5 pm on Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 19. A huge selection of fiction, kids’ books, paperbacks, biographies, travel books, and many more will be for sale with prices starting at $1. All proceeds from the sale go towards special projects at the library.

Throughout the week, library members and non-members are invited to attend free special events including a storytelling performance for adults as part of the Quebec Intercultural Storytelling Festival and a travel lecture on architecture and culture in Prague. On Thursday, October 22, the library presents an author talk with award-winning author and poet Alison Pick, author of the best-selling and intriguing memoir Between Gods, for the the sixth annual Côte Saint-Luc Reads event. A reception with live classical music and light refreshments will begin at 6:30 pm with the author talk to follow. The event is free and open to the public.

Library staff will also be hosting daily drop-in sessions from 1 pm to 3 pm from October 19 to 24. Members of the public are invited to drop by and meet staff members, enjoy a cup of coffee, and discover the resources and programs available to library members. Are you a Côte Saint-Luc resident but not yet a library member? Become a member for free and take advantage of all the library has to offer.

Kids of all ages can come for a family story time on Sunday, October 18 and families with kids ages 7 and over are invited to watch the classic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz on the big screen on Saturday, October 24 (registration required).
