If you can read it quickly, you can have it now: Côte Saint-Luc library launches new Fast Reads service

Côte Saint-Luc, August 20, 2010 – The Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library will launch its new Fast Reads collection on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 10am.

Books in the Fast Reads collection are popular titles that can only be borrowed for seven days instead of the standard 21 days. Fast Reads books can't be renewed, and no “holds,” or reservations, can be put on them.

Côte Saint-Luc appoints a new Treasurer and a new Director of Public Works and Engineering

Côte Saint-Luc, September 17, 2010 – The City of Côte Saint-Luc hired a new Treasurer and a new Director of Public Works and Engineering in August.

Raymond LeBlanc was appointed Treasurer and Director of Finance. He has 25 years of relevant work experience and an expertise in financial management, developing and implementing financial budgets and controls as well as gaining efficiency improvements. LeBlanc has lived in Côte Saint-Luc since 2005.

Public information session on construction of multipurpose aquatic centre in Côte Saint-Luc

Côte Saint-Luc, August 24, 2010 – On Monday, August 30, 2010 at 7pm, the City of Côte Saint-Luc will hold a public information session on the construction of a new multipurpose aquatic centre on Parkhaven Ave.

Mayor Anthony Housefather and members of council will provide an update on the status of the project including building designs, and services that will be offered.

The public information session will take place at Côte Saint-Luc City Hall, 5801 Cavendish Blvd. Residents are invited to watch the presentation and ask questions.

First ever Côte Saint-Luc EMS alumni reunion on Sunday

Côte Saint-Luc, August 23, 2010 – The first ever Côte Saint-Luc Emergency Medical Services alumni reunion will take place on Sunday, August 29 from 6pm to 9pm at the Public Safety Station, 8100 Côte Saint-Luc Rd.

Anyone who has ever volunteered or worked at EMS or its forerunner, EMO (Emergency Measures Organization), is invited to attend. Anyone with old photos is encouraged to e-mail them to ems@cotesaintluc.org for use in a slideshow at the event.

Free outdoor big band swing concert in Côte Saint-Luc

Côte Saint-Luc, August 23, 2010 – The Swingtown Sinners will perform a free live outdoor concert on Sunday, August 29 at 4pm at Ashkelon Gardens behind the Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library.

Formed in 2000, The Swingtown Sinners is a nine-piece swing band led by lively frontman Nigel Stern. The band has performed at numerous music festivals including the Montreal International Jazz Festival and has appeared on television stations such as MusiquePlus.

Mayor for a Day winner to visit city hall

Côte Saint-Luc, July 30, 2010 – On August 3, 2010, Mayor Anthony Housefather will welcome the winner of this year’s Mayor for a Day essay-writing contest to city hall. The contest is open to grade 5 and 6 students.

The 2010 winner Leah Bessner, a grade 6 student at Hebrew Academy, will see how the City of Côte Saint-Luc operates on a typical day, beginning with a breakfast with Mayor Housefather. Leah will also tour city hall, the Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library, and the departments of Public Safety, Public Works, and Parks and Recreation.

Côte Saint-Luc to honour human rights activists

Côte Saint-Luc, June 14, 2010 – Next month on its Human Rights Walkway, the City Côte Saint-Luc will honour those who spoke out and fought for Jews oppressed in the former Soviet Union, Syria, and Ethiopia.

The ceremony will take place on Canada Day, Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 5:30pm at Pierre Elliott Trudeau Park.

Côte Saint-Luc partners with two more schools to collect organic waste

Côte Saint-Luc, June 2, 2010 – Four schools in the City of Côte Saint-Luc now use the city’s organic waste collection service to dispose of food scraps, paper towels and other organics generated by students and teachers.

The two latest schools to launch organic waste programs are École de la Mosaique on McMurray Ave. and Merton School on Merton Rd. They join Bialik High School and the Jewish People's Peretz School (JPPS) Children's Centre who previously launched similar waste-diversion efforts.
