Côte Saint-Luc announces portfolios of council members

Côte Saint-Luc, November 10, 2009 – The City of Côte Saint-Luc today announced the portfolios for its council members.

“At the start of our first mandate in 2006, I entrusted each council member with one or more portfolio,” Mayor Anthony Housefather said. “As we begin our 2010 to 2013 term of office, I am happy to announce the new distribution of portfolios.”

The portfolio model is based on the cabinet system where elected members represent not just their individual districts, but the city in general through specific portfolios.

Côte Saint-Luc, November 2, 2009 - All the current members of the Côte Saint-Luc city council have won either acclamation or election in the 2009 municipal election and will be returning for another four-year term.

For the position of Mayor, the incumbent Anthony Housefather was elected by acclamation.

Nouvelle-France comes to life with music, dance and period costumes in Côte Saint-Luc

Côte Saint-Luc, October 27, 2009 – Les Idées heureuses will perform the concert Musique et danse en Nouvelle France, today at 7pm at the Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library. Tickets for this program are $3.

This concert is being presented by the Conseil des arts de Montréal en tournée and the library. Musique et danse en Nouvelle France will bring to life an evening of music, dance, and period costumes from a bourgeois salon in 18th century New France.

Free compostable bags available to deal with excess leaves and garden waste

Côte Saint-Luc, October 20, 2009 – Every household the City of the City of Côte Saint-Luc can obtain four free large compostable bags to use for its leaves and other garden waste.

“Residents at the 4,900 single-family homes and duplexes in Côte Saint-Luc have brown bins, which they use to dispose of kitchen waste and garden waste,” Mayor Anthony Housefather said. “However, because of all the excess leaves and garden waste during the fall season, there may not be enough room in the brown bins. That’s why we are offering free compostable bags.”

Library staff walking to raise money for juvenile diabetes research

Côte Saint-Luc, October 19, 2009 – Staff from the Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library hope to raise more than $2,000 by walking at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walkathon on Wednesday, October 21

Ten staff members will participate at the walkathon, which takes place at 2pm at West Island College in Dollard des Ormeaux.

Côte Saint-Luc to sell old street signs in support of EMS

Côte Saint-Luc, October 9, 2009 – The City of Côte Saint-Luc will sell its old street signs to the public starting October 19 with all proceeds going to support Côte Saint-Luc Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

Côte Saint-Luc installed new, larger signs this summer, which replaced the old black-on-white and black-on-yellow signs. The city is selling only the black-on-white signs.

Côte Saint-Luc and labour union representing white collar employees sign collective agreement

Côte Saint-Luc, September 30, 2009 – The City of Côte Saint-Luc and the Syndicat des fonctionnaires municipaux de Montréal (SCFP, local 429), the labour union representing Côte Saint-Luc white collar employees, signed a new collective agreement on Wednesday, September 30 at 4pm at Côte Saint-Luc City Hall. The new collective agreement is valid until December 31, 2012.

Côte Saint-Luc Public Works Week receives top prize for second consecutive year

Côte Saint-Luc, September 14, 2009 – For the second consecutive year, the association representing public works professionals in Canada has awarded the City of Côte Saint-Luc the top prize in its annual National Public Works Week Awards.

The Canadian Public Works Association (CPWA) awarded the top prize to Côte Saint-Luc among cities with a population of 75,000 or fewer. The results will be announced formally at the CPWA Luncheon at the American Public Works Association Congress in Columbus, Ohio on September 14.

A month of learning at the Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library

Côte Saint-Luc, September 14, 2009 – The month of September is full of programs that shed light on fashion, history and health at the Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library.

Celebrated local author Joe King will begin a five-part lecture series titled Jewish Montreal: A Ramble through Two and a Half Centuries of Jewish Life based on his books From the Ghetto to the Main and Fabled City. The lectures are on Fridays at 2pm on September 11, 25, October 2, 16 and 23. Tickets are $5 per lecture.

Free walking tours will tell story of the trees of Côte Saint-Luc

Côte Saint-Luc, September 1, 2009 – Côte Saint-Luc residents have two more chances to follow Bronwyn Chester on her guided Leafy Treasures walking tour of Côte Saint-Luc.

The two remaining Leafy Treasures walking tours take place on Wednesday evenings on September 2 and 9 at 5:30pm and will give individuals the chance to learn about the various trees in their neighbourhood.

The first tour was very successful, having attracted more than 25 people on August 26.

Côte Saint-Luc appoints Jordy Reichson Director of Public Safety

Côte Saint-Luc, August 31, 2009 - The City of Côte Saint-Luc announced today the appointment of Jordy Reichson to the position of Director of Public Safety.

Reichson has been employed by the city since July 2008 as Manager of Urban Planning. For the past 11 years, Reichson has volunteered countless hours as a first responder with the Côte Saint-Luc Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

A Bird’s-Eye View of the World at Côte Saint-Luc Library

Côte Saint-Luc, August 25, 2009 –The exhibition Vertigineux Espaces by photographer Guy Lavigueur is a series of aerial images that is currently being exhibited the Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library until September 13.

For more then twenty years, Guy Lavigueur has been flying over the earth, focusing in on unique patterns and traces, some created by natural forces and others by human ingenuity. He scans, explores, criss-crosses, searches and returns ten times over the same territory in order to create his unique images.

Côte Saint-Luc to host Montreal Juniors Hockey Game

Côte Saint-Luc, August 21, 2009 – On September 3, the Samuel Moskovitch Arena in Côte Saint-Luc will be one of four community stops for the Montreal Juniors QMJHL franchise in their 2009 preseason hockey tour, as the Juniors will host the Foreurs from Val D’Or at 7:35pm.
